Sudan

A brigadier calls

Washington officials are talking of a major review on Sudan policy and a harder line against the National Islamic Front government as opposition forces in southern and eastern Sudan press on with their military campaign. Africa Confidential understands that those favouring tougher measures (in the National Security Council, Pentagon and Congress) against the NIF government have won the argument against those who prefer the 'constructive engagement' policy identified with Ambassador Timothy Carney along with some in the State Department and some academics.
