The centre moves east

The country’s centre of gravity may be moving towards Benghazi but away from the Muslim Brotherhood

It may not be until after the Eid celebrations at the end of Ramadan that Libya's third interim Parliament can appoint an executive. The results of the 25 June elections probably won't be confirmed before the month of fasting begins on 29 June. So it could be September before a successor is found to the current caretaker government of Prime Minister Abdullah al Thinni. Meanwhile, the Constituent Assembly, headed by Ali el Tarhouni, who served as Oil and Finance Minister during the 2011 uprising against Colonel Moammar el Gadaffi, hopes to finish drafting the Constitution by the autumn, allowing a referendum on it to take place.
