Demarche in DC

The tension between Egypt and its long-time ally, the United States, was evident at this week's Africa summit following US criticism of Cairo's human rights record. New Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, a former Ambassador in Washington, sent an official protest on 2 April. This came after State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf defended the US decision to suspend military aid temporarily because of Cairo's suppression of dissent.
