Mugabe needs to win the presidency again, even if he wrecks the country

International eyes are off Zimbabwe and President Robert Mugabe is having a good anti-terror war. The Commonwealth summit scheduled to have opened in Australia on 6 October would have spotlighted his troubles (AC Vol 42 Nos 12 & 16), but was postponed after the attacks of 11 September on the United States. Yet he was embarrassed by Africa's own checks on Zimbabwe, at Abuja, Nigeria, and by the Southern African Development Community.
