Coal hard cash

Kenyan politicians are battling over the controversial award of a contract for a coal mine in Eastern Province by the Energy Ministry to a little-known Chinese company. Water Minister Charity K. Ngilu says that Fenxi Mining Industry is an empty shell company owned by politically connected individuals and that proper due diligence was not carried out. Vice-President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka claims that the motives of those who oppose the deal are impure.
