Dlamini-Zuma bandwagon speeds up

The momentum behind the AU chief’s bid to lead the country is increasing as the powerful coalition behind her notches up a key win

The campaign within the African National Congress for Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to become the next leader of the party and the country has just received a major boost. Sihle Zikalala, a close ally of President Jacob Zuma and the governing party's Treasurer General, has won the coveted position of Provincial Chairman of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the ANC's largest province by membership, in a tough fight at the party's provincial elective conference this week in Pietermaritzburg. Zikalala, also an ally of former KZN chair and current provincial Treasurer General Zweli Mkhize, thus becomes a kingmaker and one of the most powerful figures in the ANC.
