Far from obvious

A year after promising to be Africa's 'partner of choice', the UK is offering little beyond more of the same

In ordinary times, January's UK-Africa investment summit – the second such event ever and the first international investment event Britain has hosted since leaving the European Union's single market on 31 December – would have been the ideal place for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to wax lyrical about the 'sunlit uplands' of new trade and investment partnerships that the newly 'liberated' UK would enjoy.
