Tinubu risks overplaying his hand

Career-politician President Tinubu's espousal of business-friendly economics could cost him support this year

As the President's lengthy convoy snaked its way through the bustling streets of Isale-Eko (Lagos Island), where he was to attend the last Friday prayers of the year at a mosque, traders and residents lined up to scream: 'We are suffering, we are hungry. Tinubu save us!' President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cultivated a large following in Isale Eko, the heart of Lagos State and the richest metropolis in the country. In February, he got 84% of the votes cast in this area.
