Not much enlightenment

The battle for control of the African National Congress divides African intellectuals inside and outside the ANC, with Jacob Zuma supporters, Thabo Mbeki supporters and third-man advocates sparring it out in public. Malegapuru William Makgoba, South Africa's leading black scientist and Principal of the University of KwaZulu Natal, used to be Mbeki's favourite boffin until Mbeki questioned the causes of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
